About Fleas:

Fleas can inhabit properties by being brought in by either people or pet animals. You may discover a problem with fleas even if you do not have pets, this could be because previous owners of your property kept cats or dogs. The greatest concern about the presence of Fleas in your home or business comes from their bites. Although these are not painful, they can result in an extremely uncomfortable itch or rash.

Common species of Flea is the Cat Flea and is known for biting humans. The Bird Flea is next in importance, followed by the rare Dog Flea, although other species may
become temporarily attached to dogs. Every Flea that lives on your cat or dog, you could find that 90 more are starting to develop in your carpet. At some point in your animals live, they will suffer from an infestation.

Fleas are small (They can average from 1mm to 2mm in size) wingless insects, with a flattened shape and red-brown coloring, backwardly directed spines and legs designed for jumping, you should also find tiny black specks of Flea dirt on your pet just under their fur. The height of the summer is when Fleas are more rife; however, they can be just as bad in the winter if you have a warm central heated home.

Fleas are parasitic on warm-blooded animals. A female will lay its eggs after feeding on the infested animal. The Female Fleas can live up to two years, in which time they can lay up to 1000's of eggs. The eggs will then drop off onto the floor and into the animal's bedding. After several days the eggs will then develop into larvae. When they are fully grown, the larvae spin well camouflaged silk cocoons. When they are fully developed, the adult waits within this and can lay dormant for several months. When the adults sense warmth and vibrations only then does it emerge and jump onto your pet to start the cycle over again..
